Abbadale Bed & Breakfast

Situated in Newlands in the Western Cape, the Abbadale bed and breakfast accommodation establishment occupies a gracious double-storeyed house which was built in 1904 for the secretary to Cecil John Rhodes. The high ceilings, wooden floors and shuttered cottage windows are typical of the architecture of the time. The rooms are large, bright and airy with views of the mountain, pool or garden. Oak trees dominate the large grounds, and there is plenty of secure parking. Squirrels and birds add their charm to this restful Cape garden.

Yet Abbadale is only a stone’s throw from Kelvin Grove Club and Newlands cricket and rugby grounds, and very close to the schools, clubs, hospitals and businesses of the bustling Claremont and Rondebosch shopping centres. Major routes lead to the airport (15 minutes), the City (10 minutes), the coast and the Boland and wine routes.

We have two rooms that are double bedded (numbers 1 and 6), three have twin beds (2, 3 and 4) and Room 5 has a double bed and a window nook where a single bed can be added thus making it a triple room. Another single bed can be added to Room 4 making that a triple room. Room 6 is downstairs with its own entrance and a tiny kitchenette with bar fridge, microwave oven and sink. All are en-suite except No 3 which has a Private Bathroom just across the passage.

Facilities

Rooms have DSTV, tea and coffee making facilities and safes. ADSL access available. Meeting Room seating up to 16 people.

Directions

From the N2 (road leading to Cape Town from the Airport) take Exit 8. This is Liesbeek Park Way. It narrows to single carriageway, and at that point changes its name to Camp Ground Road. Continue along until a green road sign on your right hand side has an arrow pointing left down Keurboom Road, and coincidentally at our house. We are No 1 Keurboom Road, so turn left at the traffic light and immediately left into the inlet to our driveway.

Camp Ground Road ends at Main Road where the new Pick and Pay is situated. From our house, this road runs past Newlands Cricket Ground.
