Die Gat Guest House, a farmstead and historic monument, is situated in the valley of Middelplaas (“the farm in the middle”), near De Rust. It has been in the hands of numerous generations of the Schoeman family since the early 1800s.
The guest rooms in the outbuildings, previously the school where the Schoeman children were educated, the cart-shed turned winepress, or even an ox wagon used by earlier generations, have been suitably furnished to give you a unique experience of the outdoors.
Characteristics of the old homestead, such as the paint of German origin on the interior walls of the voorkamer/lounge, the original architectural form of the house and the picturesque environment have ensured that many a South African film has been shot here.
Supper is enjoyed with your host and hostess, Anton and Susan, in the voorhuis/dining room or under the pergola and under the starry night skies. You will be treated on traditional boerekos, regional dishes that Anton and Susan themselves prepare.
