Positioned on the Eastern side of the Waterberg range, the Waterberg Wilderness Reserve is only 2.5 hours from Johannesburg and conveniently positioned half way to Botswana.
The Waterberg mountain range is situated in the Limpopo province of South Africa and is one of the more pristine, scenic and wildlife rich areas in South Africa. Due to the rugged nature of the reserve which is typical of the Waterberg, a 4×4 vehicle or vehicle with good ground clearance is required to access the property. In the wet season a 4×4 vehicle is often essential.
The Waterberg Wilderness Camp is situated on a plateau between two deep and picturesque gorges with excellent views over the surrounding hills and valleys.
The Reserve offers a choice of either campsites with good facilities, or luxury safari tents. There is a waterhole in close proximity to the camp and it is not uncommon to have good game viewing from the campsite or the decks of the safari tents.
Campsites - 3 campsites with one ablution block (2 clean bathrooms) and 5 private campsites with own bathrooms.
Luxury Safari Tents - 1 Double bed and 2 single beds, bathroom en-suite with Victorian bath, hot and cold running water, flushing toilet and basin. Kitchen with gas fridge and stoves. Braai area and patio overlooking the spectacular gorge and surrounding hills.
No supplies can be purchased on the reserve and the safari tents are all self catering. The safari tents are run off solar power but are well equipped with all cooking and kitchen utensils.
Certain areas of the Waterberg Wilderness Reserve offer spectacular views over the surrounding hills and valleys and exploring the impressive gorges with natural streams and pools is certainly a highlight. The reserve is ideal for the more active with some beautiful walks and potential mountain bike trails.

From Johannesburg - Take the N1 to Pretoria. As approaching Pretoria take the Pietersburg/Polokwane N1 which veers off to the left. Follow the N1 Polokwane until the Naboomspruit/Mookgopong turn off about 30 km after the Kranskop Toll Gate. Drive through Naboomspruit/Mookgopong and continue straight towards Potgietersrus/Mokopane with the R101. After 33 km you will find the Sterkrivier turning which you take to your left. Follow the Sterkrivier road for 7 km and you will find a brick entrance and gravel servitude road to your right. Take the gravel road and follow it for about 10 km where you will find the gate to Waterberg Wilderness Reserve, which is sign posted. Minor gravel roads exit this main servitude, but ignore these as it is best to follow the main road all the way to the gate.
