The 5 star Upton Hall introduces an entirely new standard in sophisticated boutique guest houses. Perched graciously on the elevated slopes of Upper Morningside, among some of the city’s most prestigious residential properties, it has managed to capture excellence in every detail.

The modern yet tasteful revamp of one of the city’s premier 1930s-style mansions, has created a seamless blend of old (epitomized by the grand stairway with a magnificent chandelier) and new, with electronic access and state-of-the art security features.

Attention to detail is evident throughout, from the custom-made 400 thread count Egyptian cotton linen in the guest suites to the newspaper lounge with its spread of local, regional and national papers. Other facilities include a bar/cigar lounge (with a dedicated air-conditioning system), a gym complete with change rooms and a steam room, as well as the option of a personal trainer, and a well-equipped boardroom for those conducting business.

Guests will enjoy beautifully appointed luxury suites, each endowed with Africa’s harmonious spirit, and every technological convenience and luxury. While rooms all share common elements such as luxury linens and designer bathroom products, no two are alike in décor or dimension. Each has been given a theme which reflects the rich earthiness of the mother continent. Hence guests will be spoilt for choice between suites named Grasslands, Namibian Desert, Beaches, Wildlife, Rainforest, African People, Agriculture, North Africa, Chic Shack and Diamond Mining.

All suites enjoy views over the city and look on to the iconic arch of the Moses Mabhida Football Stadium – and some have private balconies overlooking the landscaped pool terrace. 

For guests seeking a little hustle and bustle, Durban’s renowned Florida Road with scores of restaurants, pubs and galleries is in close proximity. Durban’s beachfront, major sports stadiums, golf courses as well as Jameson and Mitchell Parks are also nearby. For business guests, Upton Hall is well-placed for access to the city centre,  as well as quick freeway access to the Umhlanga Ridge precinct. 

Upton Hall is a haven of exclusivity, which is not open to the public. Its guests have exclusive use of all facilities and it can only be booked out for special events in its entirety.
In our 24 seater restaurant, every meal will be one to savour. Our proudly South African menu is the work of accomplished Chef Nardia Adams, who produces memorable meals from a kitchen designed for excellence in every respect.

From King Shaka Airport take the Toll Road towards Durban (City centre). Take the Mt Edgecombe turn off and turn left at the T junction - Gateway Shopping Centre will be on your left. Travel along the M4 towards the city centre (past the Moses Mabhida Stadium on your right). At the big intersection, Turn right into Sandile Thusi (Argyle Road) and drive all the way up Sandile Thusi At your 3rd set of traffic lights turn right into Florida Road - travel all the way up Florida Road. When you reach the top of Florida road, keep to the right until you reach traffic lights. (At the traffic lights - Vida Café will be on the right-hand corner.) Turn right into Innes Road. Take the 2nd left into Mentone Road. Mentone Road will fork, keep left and continue up Eastbourne Road. Upton Hall is on the right.
