Sibuya Game Reserve & Tented Camp, located near Kenton-on-Sea in the Eastern Cape, offers the ultimate African safari and bush lodge experience.
Sibuya is one of South Africa’s most unique Safari destinations and has more navigable river than any other game reserve in South Africa. As a birding destination it is hard to beat; there are nearly 400 different species. This breathtakingly beautiful game reserve is sanctuary to an abundance of diverse wildlife from elephants to otters, and almost everything in between, including the Big Five.
Sibuya’s reception is in the holiday village of Kenton-on-Sea, about 140 km equidistant from Port Elizabeth and East London. It’s a natural extension to any trip, from Cape Town along the Garden Route, and easily accessible from Port Elizabeth which is a short flip from the major cities of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. Charter flights to Port Alfred are less than a 20 minute transfer to the game park.
Your unique experience begins immediately with a 45 minute boat transfer up the Kariega estuary to River Camp or Forest Camp. Leaving the beach, turtles, dolphins and whales may be seen near the river mouth. The camps nestle in riverine forest and have been constructed in an environmentally conscious manner. Guests are hosted and guided by a team of experienced professionals.
As one journalist put it: “Sibuya is a unique must see travel destination for any holiday vacation or safari trip to South Africa!”
The most popular activities on Sibuya are the game drives and walks, but many guests also take advantage of the opportunity to try their hand at fishing from the camp jetties. Canoes at the camps are regularly used by guests, keen paddlers and novices alike. Birdsong provides the perfect background sound while enjoying a massage on the deck of one of our luxurious tents. Excursions off the reserve can also be arranged for activities such as golf, horse-riding (on the beach).
Sibuya offers daily trips onto the reserve hosted by a professional guide. A leisurely cruise up the Kariega River is followed by a three hour game drive and a delicious picnic lunch on the banks of the river. A slow cruise back to Kenton-on-Sea as the sun sets is a fitting end to a wonderful experience with nature. Bespoke packages can be arranged for birders, year-end functions and other celebrations.
Sibuya provides an idyllic setting for small intimate weddings of up to 100 people. A total of 27 adults and 8 children can be accommodated on the reserve.
Forest Camp provides the ideal setting for board meetings and small conferences of up to 24 delegates. Standard conference equipment; data projector, screen, notepads, pens, water and mints are provided in the package.
Sibuya offers accommodation in three private and exclusive luxury tented game lodges and prides itself on superb cuisine.
Perfectly situated on the banks of the Kariega River, but tucked unobtrusively away into the vegetation. Adopting a low impact model, Forest Camp’s accommodation is built on expansive, slightly raised wooden decks and has long wooden walkways through pristine thicket which allow elderly and disabled guests to move around with ease. Sibuya offers true luxury tented accommodation: each tent measures 40 square metres, is adjoined by a large en-suite bathroom, accommodates two adults sharing in top-of-the-range king or twin beds, and sits under an all-weather roof. Wide decks offer views of the river or forest. Forest Camp is only available to adults and children over the age of 12.
The smaller, more intimate River Camp has four tents, ideal for families with children, or for sole-use specialist groups. The luxury tents measure 75 square metres, are adjoined by an en-suite bathroom and accommodate two adults sharing in top-of-the-range king or twin beds, and sits under an all-weather roof. Decks offer views of the river or forest. Cot or sleeper couch is available for children sharing with adults.
Sibuya’s Bush Lodge is set in a pristine wilderness paradise only minutes from the main reserve. After departing from Kenton and enjoying a unique boat cruise up the Kariega Estuary, Bush Lodge guests enjoy lunch in the Reserve before a short transfer by game vehicle takes them to the Lodge.
