Addo Gateway Lodge - Addo South

Addo Gateway Lodge - Addo South

The 3 star, TGCSA rated Addo Gateway Lodge offer both a bed and breakfast and self catering option. The Lodge is ideally situated close to all major game parks, in the small village of Cannonville, nestled along the banks of the beautiful Sundays River in the Colchester area.

Surrounded by a beautiful and tranquil garden, just off the N2, 35kms east of Port Elizabeth, the Lodge is only 4 km from the new south entrance of the Addo Elephant National Park (Camp Matyholweni) and is an ideal stop-over for anyone who would like to visit this park and other game reserves in the vicinity.

We offer 3 double en-suite rooms in the Lodge on a bed and breakfast basic and are well known for our delicious and scrumptious full breakfasts and warm hospitality. In addition we have a sunny and comfortable wheelchair accessible double room with all amenities available, as well as a fully equipped self catering double en-suite unit that has its own private entrance and a cosy setting along the side of the lodge.

Our bonsai garden is well established and is any “tree hugger’s” dream. Very old and valuable bonsai which have mostly been created by Les and well worth a visit. We recycle all organics and feed the worms in our worm farm, using the compost and vermitea in our vegetable garden and for the bonsai trees. Worms and organic compost can also be ordered. We are fully eco friendly and save water and electricity in many ways, re-cycle bottles, paper, plastic and garden waste.

In addition we run the Sundays River Ferry which is designed to accommodate a maximum of 30 passengers to cruise on the beautiful Sundays River. The cruise takes you to the river mouth and for up to 18 km upstream. The ferry is fully licensed, insured and surveyed by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and is skippered by a qualified Captain.

The river offers wonderful scenery from the magnificent coastal sand dunes; prawn and pencil bait mud banks to the prolific bird life and indigenous fauna and flora along its banks. Spotting of birds, water monitors and maybe an elephant or two, at the Addo Elephant National Park’s side, is a bonus.

The dunes also boasts ancient shell middens of the Strandloper/Khoisan people from a few thousand years ago who used to live in this area. The ferry offers a number of cruise packages for local and overseas tourists as well as educational trips for scholars. We offer cruises from one hour up to 5 hours being a short cruise up and down river for one hour, or 2 – 3 hours cruise up and down river with a stop at the majestic dunes at the river mouth to explore the dunes or swim in the safe lagoon; and private bookings for parties, braai’s, conferences or team building.

We are confident that this experience will be the highlight of all the outdoor activities we offer and we look forward having you on board.
